An ongoing project documenting the Town Moor, a vast area of common land north of Newcastle upon Tyne's city centre. Spanning over 1000 acres and spread across several sections, it is one of the largest urban open spaces in the UK. The moors have been common pasture land for over 800 years, with documented grazing rights going back to the 12th century. These rights are held by the Freemen of Newcastle, who still graze the cattle on the moor today. The Freemen's role in managing the land is one of the oldest continuous civic traditions in Britain.
